Why Worry?

If you listen to the news, most of the reports are about pestilence, wars, corruption and civil unrest. And it’s easy to fall prey to worry with all these circumstances surrounding us. But do you really need to worry? I think we should work and prepare for such things, but worry shouldn’t be one of them.

Worry doesn’t do you any good. It only robs you of your joy. Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34). The Bible says that you can’t add a single hour to your life by worrying (Matthew 6:27).

So Why Should You?

If you’re a Christian, with the coronavirus pandemic that is troubling the world today, then you have nothing to worry about because everything that happens to you is under the permissive will of God. If you die, you will still be in good hands because you will be in the presence of the Lord forever.

If you’re not a Christian and are not yet saved, then you have a lot to worry about. Much more than COVID-19. Matthew 10:28 says, “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”  But as long as there is life in you, you can still make the right decision and get saved.  Make the decision today because you are not guaranteed of tomorrow.

Listen to this broadcast regarding the coronavirus pandemic and learn how to deal with this dreadful disease.

The mind is very powerful and whatever you think about can have a great influence in your life. This is why God wants us to renew our minds with excellent and praiseworthy things (Philippians 4:8). Do not use your mind as a garbage-collecting medium. Remember that the body usually follows what you think about. So guard your mind always and fill it with God’s Word daily.

Dr. David Jeremiah said, “Your thoughts only live in 3 places: the past, the present and the future. The past is mere memory, the present is the true reality, and the future exists only in our imagination.” Then he added that, “when you borrow trouble from the future, now you have double trouble.”

Let us practice living in the present. Let God’s strength and sufficiency get you through the day (Deuteronomy 33:25). If you’re a worrier, let Philippians 4:6 be your life verse which says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” When you give all your problems and troubles to the Lord, you let the Lord Almighty deal with all of your concerns. You are transferring your burden into the Lord’s hands. This is what casting your care on him is all about (I Peter 5:7). You’re letting God’s power work on your issues and by so doing, it relieves you from your stresses because it is no longer you who is carrying the load but the Lord.

Magnify the Lord in your life and not your problems.  Always look up and see God as who He really is — the powerful Creator who created the heavens and the earth with his words out of nothing; breathed life into you and me; One that even the wind and the seas obeyed at his command; walked on water; parted the Red Sea; tens of thousands of angels at his disposal; multiplied five loaves of bread and two fishes; turned water into wine; healed various kinds of diseases; cast out demons; evil spirits tremble and flee at the sound of His name; brought the dead to life; conquered death and most of all, fulfilled all Old Testament prophecies.

Need to add more to this list? Actually, these are just a few of the miracles that God can do. There are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written (John 21:25).

This is the God who can take away your worry and anxiety. So give it all to Him and watch him work wonders in your life.
