We all have goals and dreams in our lives, but some of us only settle for something less. Maybe you feel that you are not qualified enough, you don’t have the right skills, resources, or experience for it. We are all familiar with these thoughts and feelings, aren’t we? These are all normal and even beneficial because it moves us to do something about it.
If you look at those who are living their dreams, they too didn’t have everything, but they still went head on. Whatever they lacked, be it in knowledge, skill set, finances, or experience, that didn’t stop them from reaching their goals. They worked with whatever they had at their disposal and learned the needed skills along the way.
As a Christian, the Lord has great plans for you (Jeremiah 29: 11-12). Whatever God has purposed in your heart, work at it with all your might and accomplish that calling. Take the example of Nehemiah, whom God called to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a cup-bearer to King Artaxerxes of Persia. On his own, Nehemiah didn’t have the means to rebuild the walls. But God made all the provisions by supplying him with the documents, workers and resources needed to rebuild the walls through King Artaxerxes.
In the same manner, whatever God has called you to do, He already has provided you with the knowledge and skills to do it. These are the seeds God gifted you with. He even places people along your path to help you out. It is now up to us to improve on what God has given. We can do that taking classes, read books, attend seminars or conventions or even hire a coach to water those seeds to make us useful and valuable for God’s work.
2 Corinthians 5:9-10 says, “Make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” All of us will eventually have to give an account to the Lord for all the things and gifts we have been blessed with. So whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters (Colossians 3:23) so you can receive the reward that befits you.
And with regards to goals, Ruth Soukup has written a book, “How Big is Your Brave” to impart boldness in reaching for your dreams and goals despite of fear.
The book is well-written and beautifully illustrated, and though it is written for children, the principles are the same where both kids and adults can glean from. Nobody knows it better than Ruth Soukup about reaching for something big where it stretches you from your comfort zone to a life that is rewarding and fulfilling.
